Treasurer

The resources below are helpful to find information for being an meeting Treasurer.

Treasurer Information

Each meeting traditionally rotates the treasurer position every six months. The newly elected Secretary appoints a new Treasurer and arranges a handoff between the outgoing and incoming Treasurers.

The suggested sobriety for a Treasurer is one year.

The new Treasurer receives the prudent reserve from the outgoing Treasurer and tracks each week's contributions on paper. The 7th tradition typically includes cash and Venmo payments.

The large room costs $60 to rent, and the small room costs $20.

For example, if the rent is $60 and $10 was received via Venmo, the rent envelope will be marked as "$50 cash and $10 in Venmo for a total of $60." A Venmo slip is passed in the 7th Tradition basket, where members note their Venmo contribution. The envelope is filled out with the date, meeting name, Secretary name, and contributions, then placed in the vault after the meeting. The Treasurer securely holds any remaining money.

When an AA member purchases materials like books, the book name and price are noted on the rent envelope, and the purchase amount is added to the envelope.

If the meeting fails to meet rent for the current week, they can use the surplus. After the Treasurer's term ends, the remaining money is distributed to support AA General Service.

Distributions

The outgoing treasurer handles disbursements with any remaining contributions collected during their term.

After the outgoing Treasurer makes distributions, they will give a Treasurer's report on where the distributions were given. A receipt for the distributions is provided to the new Treasurer for their records.

This resource page helps treasurers with distributions.

Each meeting uses a group conscience to support one or more of the following. The percentages below serve as a guide.

SCV Central Office – 50%
A.A. General Service Office – 25%
District 7 – 12.5%
Area 93 – 12.5%

When your meeting is listed as an AA group with GSO, include your GSO Group ID on checks or digital distributions.

Without a GSO Group ID, GSO, Area 93, and District 7 may see your contributions as personal rather than from a meeting.

How to Make a Group Contribution (GSO)

How to Make a Group Contribution from GSO in New York

Updated by the Data Integrity Working Group, Jan 2026 v1

A Group contribution comes from 7th Tradition collections of an A.A. group. They can be made online using either an individual or a group account.

Individual Accounts

Most members have Individual accounts, which can be created on the contributions site or webstore. These accounts can be used to make individual OR group contributions, but they are not associated with a group or a Group ID.

Group Accounts

A group account is set up by Member Services upon request, and is associated with a Group ID. It’s used to make group contributions and cannot be used for individual contributions.

How to Make a Group Contribution

  1. Sign in to the contribution site with either an individual or group account.
  2. Choose “Group” from the Type of Contribution menu.
  3. If you want this contribution to be recurring, select an option from the Recurrence menu.
  4. Click “Search for your Group”, then find and select your group.(You can search by group ID, name, location, or legacy service number.)Remember that this is the group whose 7th Tradition collections you are contributing.
  5. Continue with your contribution.
